about
Hammare's unconventional debut single. Making the familiar strange is what this band does best, as can be heard on ”God Is Doing Blow” – in which a plethora of familiar approaches to vocal hooks flow through unconventional instrumental arrangements.
Described by Melt Reviews*:
The debut single “God Is Doing Blow” from Swedish duo “Hammare” is an exploration in dissonance, but rather than descending further down the rabbit hole of inaccessibility, the band has every intention to make you move with the song’s danceable quality with it’s groovy rhythm section. The dissonance comes from the synthesizers and unconventional arrangements. The discombobulating machine sounding noise provided by said synthesizers brings a chaotic nature to the track, echoing the genre of “Industrial” music, but this is controlled chaos. It’s never overbearing, and it’s dichotomized with catchiness and sexy swagger.
Lyrics:
Bring your own nouns
Inflect your own mouths
Put on your own show
And get your own blow
To each his own
Don't you know
Let's take your values for a spin
Bring them in, wind them up, wear them thin
No voices here but those within
Say good-bye, hear them cry, carve your skin
So bring them forth
Your pities and your woes
Expose your flaws to god, make sure he knows
Abandon hope, face the rope
Judge character by deviance
Elect the totalitarians
Eradicate the humanitarians
Worship the charlatans
One for the road, and another for our heavy load
A third one for our journey
And a last one for the best part of the trip
Let's take your values for a spin
Bring them in, wind them up, wear them thin
No voices here but those within
Say good-bye, hear them cry, carve your skin
Clutch your life and go
You reap what you sow
God is doing blow, and christ is dead so
Make up for ignorance, in past and present tense
Once you're in the black, there is no going back
You make no room for doubt
Although you don't know what you're talking about
You make no room for doubt
Although you don't know what you're talking about
Let's take your values for a spin
Bring them in, wind them up, wear them thin
No voices here but those within
Say good-bye, hear them cry, carve your skin
Let's take your values for a spin
Bring them in, wind them up, wear them thin
No voices here but those within
Say good-bye, hear them cry, carve your skin
